OUR FOUNDER

Amanda Thomson is the passionate CEO and Founder of Thomson & Scott, winner of the EY Winning Women 2017 and the Le Cordon Bleu Entrepreneur of the Year 2017.

She is leading the transparency in wine movement by creating a company that asks consumers to demand what's in their bottles.  To this end, Thomson & Scott produces top quality Champagne and Prosecco with as little intervention as possible in the production process and highlights its vegan and organic credentials.

Wine labelling is sparse in its detail and misleading in its description. Currently, the wine industry doesn’t have to say what goes into making the products we drink.

Raised on a vegetarian, no sugar diet by her health-conscious mother, Amanda Thomson has always had a keen interest in what’s in her food.

A lover of Champagne and sparkling wine, she discovered that there was more than just grapes and alcohol in her favourite drinks.

After a successful career as an Arts Broadcaster at the BBC, Amanda moved her young family to Paris and studied for her Diploma in Wine at the renowned Le Cordon Bleu School to find a way of bringing greater transparency to the wine industry.

In an effort to be the first wine company to also put a real focus on wine packaging and its harmful impact on the environment, all our own deliveries are made with packaging that is 100% recyclable.

What inspired Amanda Thomson to create the Thomson & Scott brand?

I grew up on a sugar-free, vegetarian diet and I’ve always been dedicated to keeping my diet and lifestyle healthy – I was finding that it was much easier to keep up a low-sugar diet in the foods that I ate, but it was extremely difficult to know what was in the wine and alcohol that I enjoyed. This compelled me to create Thomson & Scott and give health-conscious consumers like me the option to drink a premium sparkling wine that is vegan and organic, as well as no additives like animal-derived by-products or harmful pesticides. Now, we offer a delicious range of premium wines in Thomson & Scott portfolio for customers to fall in love with.

How is Thomson & Scott produced, and how much sugar is in the product?

My mother always thought sugar was the devil - and I have to say, I agree! – so we certainly take every measure to ensure Thomson & Scott wines are as pure as we can make them. We produce Thomson & Scott Champagne and Prosecco via a revolutionary and proprietary vegan process. Each bottle of Thomson & Scott has between 0.1g-7g of sugar per litre and doesn’t contain any additives such as harmful pesticides or animal-derived by-products.

Is your product organic, gluten-free or vegan?

Yes! All Thomson & Scott products are 100% vegan. We also don’t include any additives such as harmful pesticides or animal-derived by-products in our Champagne and Prosecco.

How much alcohol is in Thomson & Scott products, and is it comparable to competitors?

We certainly aren’t here to compare ourselves to other brands, but we can say that Thomson & Scott Prosecco is 11% ABV while Thomson & Scott Champagne Grand Cru is 12% ABV.

How are Thomson & Scott products made, and where?

Thomson & Scott Champagne and Prosecco are produced via a revolutionary and proprietary vegan process. Thomson & Scott Prosecco is produced with 100% organic Glera grapes from the foothills of the Dolomites, which is close to Soligo in North East Italy. Thomson & Scott Champagne is made exclusively for us by master Champagne maker Alexandre Penet in Verzy, France.

How do you choose the blends that make up the product?

I’ve personally tasted hundreds of different makers’ products to find the right recipes that make Thomson & Scott so unique – and top quality! We are dedicated to ensuring that the process is as pure and transparent as it can be to stay true to our mission.

Why do you believe in more transparency in wine labelling, and why do you feel that the wine industry has not been more open to revealing their products’ ingredients?

Just as we are now all coming around to the notion of better eating, I’m advocating for better drinking to become part of our lifestyles as well. I can’t speak for others, but we are proud to provide as much information as possible about how the Thomson & Scott portfolio is created and exactly what’s in each bottle – and more importantly, what isn’t.

What made you leave your career as a BBC broadcaster to create the Thomson & Scott brand?

While I loved the experience of being a broadcaster for such an iconic network as the BBC, I fell in love with the opportunity of creating the Thomson & Scott brand to offer health-conscious consumers like myself who want to know what's in their bottle!

Where did you learn about wine-making?

Once I was inspired to found Thomson & Scott, I immediately enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and earned a Diploma in Wine and Wine Management. I also enlisted famed French wine producer Alexandre Penet to produce Thomson & Scott to ensure the premium, top-quality finished product that we launched to great fanfare.

Where is the Thomson & Scott brand being sold in the U.S.?

We’re excited to announce that while Thomson & Scott Prosecco is available in the Boston region and we are just launching across Texas. We will soon announce plans for a nationwide distribution across the U.S. and be available to buy directly online very soon.

Can we expect additional new product or category launches from Thomson & Scott in the future?

Absolutely! Just as I’ve chased new stories over the years as a reporter for BBC, I’m now completely dedicated to chasing after the next organic grape to continue developing the Thomson & Scott portfolio. More to come soon!

How successful is the Thomson & Scott brand in the U.K.?

Thomson & Scott is a huge success in the U.K. and it’s quickly gained cult-status since we launched last year in April at Selfridges. Thomson & Scott Prosecco sold out in its first week there and continues to be Selfridge’s best-selling wine. It was the number one searched product on Selfridges’ website during its launch across all verticals, even its beauty, fashion and tech sections. We also have great partners with iconic U.K. retailers like Harvey Nichols, Fenwick, and Ocado among many others.
