We're Nuts About Squirrel

By Ian Thomson

I don’t like “healthy” food, which, as a lifelong vegetarian, might sound a contradiction but there’s usually not a lot to like about many so-called healthy choices in UK restaurants.

But I’m genuinely excited about Squirrel.

This all day fast casual healthy food hangout celebrates everything the cheese-slathered pasta bake that would double as mortar found on so many menus.

Thomson & Scott Prosecco is now being poured at this venue in London’s South Kensington. It’s decked out to feel like a cosy nook in a friendly forest, complete with real trees, and cutlery holders in the shape of bird houses.

There are no limp pieces of kale or smoothies packed with sugar, but colourful, zesty, crunchy grain bowls, vast salads, and ever-changing specials. Sweet things include vegan rocky road, waffles, and an acai bowl with granola, toasted coconut chips and chia seeds that will keep you going till teatime.

It’s all filling, delicious and nutritious and to wash it down there’s a ‘drinking well’ providing unlimited green tea and infused water.

And Thomson & Scott Prosecco, of course! It’s hearty, in both senses. Every mouthful delivers your five-a-day and you could come in every day for a month and find something you like. Take it from me.
