East Rocks West with Rani by Raja
By Amanda Morison
Don’t stereotype a wearer of Rani by Raja fashion. Founded in 2017 by the Raja cousins, they bring 40 years of working in the Indian fashion business into their designs. Looser and less structured than typically Indian designs, you can wear the pieces to a traditional event or a Western party.
The emphasis on embroidery, colour and naturally luxurious fabrics evokes the east, but you’re as likely to find the wearer rocking a raw silk top with a pair of Urban Outfitters dungarees as throwing an intricately embroidered shawl over the skinniest of denim jeans. The Raja family are strong believers in re-imagining the world not based on borders or passports but according to a shared set of cultural values. They believe fashion has a powerful role to play in breaking down the boundaries between East and West, and defining how we live.
Thomson & Scott loves the Rani by Raja focus on creating pieces that are designed to make the wearer look and feel fabulous for a lifetime. You can find pieces from the collection and designers Kanika Goyal, Poonam Baghat and Outhouse Jewellery at a pop-up in London’s Soho - this Sunday 20 May - 1st Floor, 12 Moor Street, London W1D 5NG.
Hope to see you there – and we promise to be generous with the Thomson & Scott bubbles!
